Description

Bio-HPF® is a special digestive support formula that provides a synergistic complement of herbal components. Despite the highly acidic environment of the stomach, H. pylori can persist, due primarily to its characteristic spiral morphology and high motility. Acute H. pylori-induced gastritis is associated with hypochlorhydria, and it is speculated that colonization has the ability to modify net gastric acidity, by virtue of the substances secreted by the bacteria. H. pylori infestation is associated with dysregulation in gastric epithelial barrier function, as well as increased epithelial permeability. Furthermore, the inflammatory response to H. pylori is well-documented, involving cellular proliferation and gastric mucosal damage. Components of H. pylori have been shown to act directly on the gastric epithelium and induce increased cytokine release. These actions have been primarily attributed to the upregulation of inflammatory markers, including COX-2 and IL-1β. To reduce this detrimental effect on the gastric mucosa, a comprehensive combination of phytochemical nutrients, known to have a positive impact on gastrointestinal tissues, may help to heal and repair these tissues. Certain herbs are recognized to possess anti-pylori activity, are observed to downregulate inflammatory markers associated with H. pylori infestation, and correlate with gastric inflammation. Furthermore, the use of selected herbal components has demonstrated a positive effect in reducing antigens associated with H. pylori.
